Throughout the Bible, Old and New Testaments, the people of God have been required give of their money and/or material possessions for various purposes. In the Old Testament the children of Israel, under the Law of Moses were required to give a tithe (tithe = 10%) of their grain, the fruit of their trees, and/or of their flocks or herds. In the case of the flocks and herds the cattle were sent through a shoot with a rod over it, and every tenth animal that passed under the rod was taken as the offering. The giver, in this case, was not permitted to ask whether or not the animals that were chosen were good or bad, they simply met their obligation and went on their way.

Children's Corner

VBS Marketplace 29 AD

We host this annual Vacation Bible School for the church and community. This year (because of COVID19) we are rescheduling for a later date to be determined.

The kids “travel” back in time to learn of the everyday life in the time of Jesus. While dressed in Biblical time clothing, the children visit the market place and go to different shops each night. In each shop, they learn about the habits, traditions, and lifestyles of 29 A.D. Each child gets to make jewelry, harps, ropes, pottery, and other items. The time travelers visit a carpenter’s shop and a storyteller’s tent. They also get to worship God in the Jewish ways at the Synagogue School and learn to write on scrolls in the Hebrew language. By using gold pebbles, they can purchase candies and herbs. To add to the ancient atmosphere, Roman guards, live sheep, beggars, apostles, people, and Jesus roam the marketplace, acting out several scenes from the Bible. The children learn first hand what it was like to live during the time of Jesus.

“Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down,
and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom”

(Luke 6:38)
